Case Study

BENNH

People seeking mental health support in the Netherlands begin their journey with a general practitioner (GP). When necessary, GPs refer patients to specialists, such as for EMDR treatment. In recent years, patients have faced long waiting times. One cause is that many GPs lack up-to-date information about regional specialist availability. To address this, the Municipality of Amsterdam asked Atlantis for support.

We developed BENNH Assistent for the Municipality of Amsterdam. The tool is a chat interface powered by a Large Language Model. It enables GPs to describe patient needs and receive direct suggestions for suitable specialists, based on current availability. The assistant uses datasets that include regional capacity, specialist profiles, and patient requirements. Through natural language processing, BENNH provides GPs with an up-to-date list of specialists matched to specific needs.

With BENNH Assistent, GPs can identify appropriate specialists faster and reduce unnecessary delays for patients.

The tool is built in React and uses the OpenAI API for natural language processing. It is hosted on AWS and uses a PostgreSQL database to store and manage data. The tool is designed to be user-friendly and easy to use, with a focus on providing GPs with the information they need to make the best decisions for their patients.
